How to Travel Bali Like a Local
If you really want to feel Bali—not just see it—traveling like a local is the key.
Slow Down.
Bali doesn’t move at the pace of the West. Leave room in your schedule for magic, for detours, for conversations over kopi Bali. Don’t overbook. The best moments happen between the plans.
Eat at Warungs.
Skip the Instagram cafés every now and then. Instead, sit down at a small warung and try nasi campur, gado-gado, or sate lilit. You’ll taste the soul of the island. With most of our Experience Packages, we endeavor to share the local culture with you in as many ways as we can. This includes local cuisine and warungs we’ve curated.
Speak a Little Bahasa.
Even a simple “Terima kasih” (thank you) or “Selamat pagi” (good morning) opens hearts. Locals will light up when they hear you try. We, of course, are happy to share some Bahasa and Balinese words, phrases, and pronunciations with you.
Respect the Offerings.
You’ll see small palm-leaf baskets with flowers and incense placed on sidewalks, doorsteps, even scooters. These are canang sari, daily offerings to the gods. Step around them. Notice them. They’re everywhere for a reason.
